Create the Foundation Chain:

  • Start by making a slip knot with the main color (hot pink).
  • Chain 21 stitches to form the foundation chain.

First Row:

  • Skip the first stitch from the hook, then make four single crochets.
  • On the fourth single crochet, switch to the new color (baby pink) by pulling it through the loops on the hook to complete the stitch.
  • Continue making three single crochets, then change colors on the fourth stitch. You will have five starting blocks of checks in hot pink and baby pink.

Chain and Turn:

  • Chain one and turn your work.

Create the Check Pattern:

  • Carry the yarn colors along the edge and continue making the checks by doing three single crochets and changing colors on the fourth.
  • Don't forget to chain one every time you turn your work.
  • Repeat this process to create a total of four rows for each of the checks.
  • The video suggests switching colors on the last stitch of each row to prepare for the next row.

Create Multiple Rows of Checks:

  • Repeat the check process to form subsequent rows, maintaining the pattern to create a checkered look.
  • Continue until you have a total of 15 sets of checks (15 rows).

Finish and Change Colors:

  • After completing the last checker, chain one and cut the baby pink yarn.

Single Crochet Border:

  • Begin a single crochet border by single crocheting around all four sides of the piece.
  • If the pouch is for a thick Kindle case, you might add another round of single crochets to make it a bit bigger.
    Save

Create a Buttonhole:

  • At the top right, single crochet eight stitches.
  • Chain three, skip three stitches, and single crochet into the fourth stitch.
  • Finish the row of single crochets to create the buttonhole.
    Save

Make Scallop Edges:

  • Fold the piece where the two rows of checks will form a flap.
  • Join the sides with a scalloped edge by working three half double crochets in every other stitch and a slip stitch in between.

Sew on a Button:

  • Finally, sew a button onto the pouch to align with the buttonhole created in the flap.
