Starting the Cuff:

  • Make a slip knot.
  • Chain 10.
  • Single crochet in the second chain from the hook.
  • Continue single crocheting each chain until the end, having a total of 9 single crochets.
  • Chain one and turn.

Creating the Ribbed Texture:

  • Single crochet into the back loops only for the entire row.
  • Continue this pattern for a total of 21 rows (or however many rows needed for the desired cuff length), chaining one at the beginning of each row.

Joining the Cuff:

  • Connect both ends of the cuff by inserting the hook into corresponding stitches on each end and making slip stitches across all nine stitches.
  • Chain one and turn the cuff inside out so that the seam is inside.

Extending the Hand Warmer:

  • Single crochet around the row where you’ve joined the cuff (21 single crochets for 21 rows as an example).
  • Slip stitch into the chain made at the beginning and chain one.

Body of the Hand Warmer:

  • Half double crochet into every single crochet from the previous step.
  • Continue this for one complete row, then half double crochet into the slip stitch to blend the seam seamlessly.
  • Slip stitch into the first half double crochet and chain one.
  • Now work three half double crochets and one increase (two half double crochets in the same stitch) all around the row.

Additional Rows:

  • Work five additional rows of half double crochet in each stitch.
    Save

Creating the Thumb Hole:

  • Make two half double crochets, chain six, skip the next five stitches, then half double crochet into the sixth stitch.
  • Continue half double crochet to the end of the row.
  • In the next row, work two half double crochets, then make six half double crochets around the chain loop from the previous row, and continue with half double crochet till the end.
  • Work two more rows of half double crochet throughout.

Finishing the Hand Warmer:

  • Slip stitch to join the last row, cut the yarn, pull through, and weave in ends.
    Save

Adding Decoration (White Edge and Heart):

  • Attach white yarn and single crochet around the end where the thumb hole is created; this forms an edge.
  • To crochet a heart: Start with a magic circle, chain two, make three triple crochets, three double crochets, chain one, one triple crochet, chain one, three double crochets, three triple crochets, chain two and slip stitch into the circle. Pull tightly to close the circle. Attach this heart to the hand warmer by stitching it onto the desired spot.
