Materials Needed:

  • Two different colors of yarn (Aran cotton recommended)
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Star Garland Pattern:

1 Save

Create a Magic Ring

  • Make a magic ring with any color yarn (since you'll need six stars, three of each color).

 Begin the First Round

  • Chain one.
  • Double crochet 15 times into the magic ring.

To double crochet:

  • Yarn over, go into the ring.
  • Yarn over, pull through two loops.
  • Yarn over again and pull through the remaining two loops.

2 Save

Close the Ring

  • After completing the 15 double crochets, tighten the yarn at the back to close the circle.
  • Slip stitch into the first stitch.

Create the First Point of the Star

  • Chain five.
  • Skip the first stitch.
  • Single crochet into the second double crochet.
  • Double crochet into the next stitch.

Making a Treble Crochet

  • Yarn over twice for a treble crochet.
  • Go into the stitch, yarn over, and pull through.
  • Pull through two loops three times, yarning over before each set.

Attach the Point to the Ring

  • Skip two stitches.
  • Slip stitch into the third one.

Complete the Star

  • Repeat the process for creating and attaching the points four more times to complete the star.

Finish off the Star

  • Cut the yarn and pull through the last stitch.
  • Weave in the ends with the tapestry needle.

Assembling the Garland

Arrange the Stars

  • Lay out the stars in the order you wish to attach them to the garland string.

Create the Hanging String

  • Make a slip knot and chain until the desired length for the garland is reached (the example given was 87 cm).
  • Cut the yarn, pull it through the last stitch, and leave a tail for weaving.

Attach the Stars to the String

  • Use the tail from the garland string to weave through the back of each star to the front, securing them in place.

4 Save

Blocking the Stars (Optional)

  • Wet the stars and squeeze out extra water.
  • Lay them flat in the desired shape and let them dry so they are facing forward.
