Crochet Owl Baby Hat

Materials Needed:

Worsted weight yarn in various colors (corn silk and purple are mentioned)
Size H crochet hook

Hat Band:

Start with a slip knot using corn silk colored yarn.

Chain 8, then half-double crochet (HDC) into the third chain from the hook and in each chain to the end (6 HDC total).
Chain 1 and turn; HDC into the back loop only of each stitch. This creates the ribbed band. Continue until the band is about 15 to 16 inches long to fit the head circumference.

Joining Band Ends:

Crochet the two band ends together with slip stitches to form a circle.

Body of the Hat:

Change to purple yarn, attach it to the band without a knot, and secure the ends.
Single crochet around the top edge of the band, skipping over the seam, and slip stitch to join.
